DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH REQUIREMENTS FOR ESSAYS. What follows are the conventions of style you are expected to use in all English courses at the University of Saskatchewan. The aim of these conventions is to make your work comprehensible and useful to readers.
The study of English literature is an exploration of the ways in which we express or create worlds through language. By examining works of literature published in English, students in English programs at the University of Saskatchewan not only imagine other worlds and forms of human experience, but also learn how to become better readers, writers, editors, researchers, and critical thinkers.
MLA style is the preferred system for citing sources in scholarly writing for courses, papers, and publishing in the literary humanities—notably for English, but also for literary, language, and folklore topics based in other languages. The USask Department of English Requirements for Essays is based in MLA style, as detailed in the MLA Handbook.Transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by a certified translation. The College of Education will send official University of Saskatchewan transcripts to the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board once your degree appears on your transcripts in October. We do not send transcripts from other post-secondary institutions so please arrange to send those transcripts directly to the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board.
